Talking Clean Beauty and Nontoxic Skincare with Esthetician Hannah Zaborowski - So Good So You

Lately, there has been more and more conversation around clean beauty, nontoxic ingredients and transparent formulas. For good reason, consumers are eager to know more about the products they put on and inside their bodies everyday.

At So Good So You, we are major advocates for educating ourselves on this topic and want to be a resource for our community as well. We reached out to community member Hannah Zabarowski, an Advanced Practice Esthetician in Minnesota, and asked her a series of questions.

What else do you want to know about all things beauty? We want to know! Let us know in the comments.

Tell us a little bit about yourself... How you got into beauty and what your focus is on today?

My name is Hannah Zaborowski and I am an Advanced Practice Esthetician in Minnesota. I currently work at the Face Foundrie in Edina, MN. I always had a love for makeup and practiced mostly on friends and family and then slowly moved into taking on weddings during the busy season. When I went to school to get my license I then found my passion in skincare. I want everyone to feel confident and happy within their own skin!

Knowing transparency when it comes to ingredients and formulas is an issue in the US, how do you decide what products to use on your skin and hair?

I love trying out new products all the time because the industry is constantly evolving. The products I tend to lean towards when researching are ones that do not use ingredients that are going to be harsh, drying or stripping my skin and hair of their natural oils. I love researching the background on the company that is behind the products I buy and what they stand for when it comes to the ingredients they use.

Where do you go to shop for clean beauty products? Do you have a favorite brand you recommend?

I love to shop online or in salon/spas that are selling products that I am interested in. The skincare products I am loving lately are from the company called Grown Alchemist. They are a natural and holistic beauty that looks to help with skin results from the inside out. They have an amazing moisturizer that is great for everyday use.

Our Beauty shot helps promote collagen development inside the body. Are you a believer in the power of collagen?

I am a big believer in the power of collagen! It has been a big craze in the beauty industry in the last couple of years and I am here for it. We currently sell a collagen spritz at the Face Foundrie. This is a great product to bring everywhere and spray anytime on the skin to keep it youthful, fresh and glowing. The benefits of incorporating collagen into your skincare routine are amazing because it can help with fine lines and wrinkles and really give that skin the hydration it needs.

How strong of a correlation do you see between what you eat and drink and one's skin? Breakouts?

Yes, there is a big connection between skincare and our everyday routines. Sometimes the biggest factors in breakouts or skin conditions could be attributed to our diets and habits we do throughout the day. These are things to observe in your own daily routines and see what could be causing a breakout by cutting out different foods or simply adding a little more water into your day.

What's your favorite beauty product and/or trick currently? Why?

My favorite thing that I do every night in my skincare routine is using my gem roller. I like to put mine in the freezer to get it nice and cold and then roll on my skin to help with stimulating the blood circulation and helping with depuffing the face. A tip that also really helps with the glow and hydration of my skin is making sure I drink enough water throughout the day because it really does make a big difference.

Do you have a recurring morning and nighttime skincare routine? What does that entail?

Yes, my nighttime skincare routine is very important to keep my skin looking its best! My routine currently consists of a cleansing balm to remove makeup, a cleanser to remove any dirt or oil build up, a toner that helps with hyperpigmentation such as sunspots, a hydrating serum, and a heavy-duty moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated. This all aids in giving my skin that nice and healthy glow.

What's your favorite So Good So You shot?

My favorite So Good So You shot is the Detox because it helps to kick start my digestive system and also helps me feel better after a weekend of not eating the best. It tastes so good and does wonders for my body!
