Women’s History: Empowered Women Empower the World

Women's History Month is a big deal here at So Good So You. If you didn't know already, we are proud to be a women-owned company with a female-controlled board and put an emphasis on the empowerment of women with every decision we make.

These decisions have led us to become a majority-female company, where more than 70% of our staff are women.

Because of these steps, we are so grateful and proud to announce that So Good So You is now WBENC Certified! The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping women-owned businesses achieve their goals and certifies businesses that are "owned, controlled, and operated by women."

We were founded on the core concept that the products we buy and use are a direct connection to a larger community and purpose. To emphasize this, we have decided to partner with two other WBENC certified companies (Amazi Foods and Lunchskins) for Women's History Month to give away some fantastic products created by women-owned brands that align with our goals!

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH: THE FACTS

The beginnings of Women's History Month as we know it started more than 150 years ago as a protest against poor working conditions in New York City, but March was not designated as Women's History Month until 1987.

In the 35 years since this designation, women have made incredible strides and advances in earning power, education, business, and much, much more - while continuing to have longer life spans than men.

Each President since Jimmy Carter has issued a proclamation that designates March as Women's History Month, with 2022's theme being "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope."

According to the National Women's History Alliance, this theme "is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history."

One of these ways is through the vote. Women have much higher voter registration and turnout percentages in presidential and congressional elections than men, and this stretches back decades.

Women with children under 18 are very well represented in the labor force, with more than 71% working or looking for work. 65.8% of women with children under the age of 6 are working while raising a family.

Not only are an extremely healthy number of women working while raising families, but they are also starting their own businesses at a very high rate. There are currently 114% more women entrepreneurs now than there were 20 years ago, while 62% of women entrepreneurs cite their business as their primary source of income.

Because of this, women now own more than 12 million businesses in the United States alone, generating close to $2 trillion per year!

OUR FOUNDER: RITA KATONA

Our company was founded by Rita Katona because she believed she could do more good in the world with a company than as an individual.

Rita left a big job in the corporate world to start a little company, now So Good So You. Rita wanted to create a wellness community around people and planet. So Good So You
is the community, and its products are the vehicle for creating connections. Her goal? To do more good - together.

She believes that every decision we make matters, and collectively we can make a positive impact on our body and planet.

Today, we’re a WBENC certified, Women-Owned business and we wanted to share some of what makes being a WBENC company special!

WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE NATIONAL COUNCIL (WBENC)

Since its founding in 1997, WBENC has held the standard for women-owned business certification.

Alongside business certification, they also offer programs and resources to help women-owned businesses achieve their goals and thrive.

WBENC's mission is to "fuel economic growth globally by identifying, certifying, and facilitating the development of women-owned businesses."

To become a WBENC certified business, companies must be at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by women, and their theme of "Join Forces. Succeed Together," works to give opportunities, resources, and engagement as these businesses grow.
