In honor of this year’s Women’s History Month, we want to tell you about 2 certified women-owned brands that encapsulate the theme of Women's History Month: “Providing healing, promoting hope.”
LUNCHSKINS was started by Kirsten Quigley in 2008 when she realized how much waste was generated by packing lunches and snacks for her children.
She knew we needed a planet-friendly alternative to the plastic bag, while also keeping it easy to use and affordable. She created the world's first self-sealing disposable paper bag and the first dishwasher-safe, reusable fabric bag.
But she didn't stop there. Lunchskins product line now stretches to paper straws, zippered sandwich and snack bags & more!
Lunchskins also donates some of their proceeds to help fight plastic waste in the ocean, and climate change, raising more than $7,000 and counting for the Oceanic Preservation Society and 1% For The Planet.
Lunchskins are Parent Tested Parent Approved and go by the motto "A Life Less Plastic."

AMAZI FOODS was founded by Renee Dunn during a trip to Uganda in April 2016. She had completed her thesis there previously and was amazed by the plethora of organic fruit that was bursting with flavor but noticed that this did not translate to the fruit stands.
"Stand after stand, people traded fruits raw or looked for cheap ways of processing or exporting. I had heard stories about cocoa farmers never seeing a chocolate bar. This anecdote sums up a lot about our supply chains as a whole."
She found that the very people farming these foods were totally separated from the business side of things, which was leading to high food waste and unemployment.
So because of her background in wellness, fitness coaching, and teaching yoga, she decided to connect the dots and start Amazi Foods!
Renee's company sources its ingredients directly from these Ugandan farmers and partners with Ugandan businesses to keep production inside the country.
Amazi Foods sells Plantain Chips and Jackfruit Chews (with a Ginger Turmeric flavor, sound familiar?).
In 2021 alone they purchased 570,000kg of fruit, sourced their ingredients from 241 different farmers, and paid these farmers more than 60% above market price.
The best part? 63% of the farmers they partner with are female!
